Summary of attributes of LABOR PARTNER LP-SEPIA

1. Product description

LABOR PARTNER LP-SEPIA is a brown toner for use with processed black & white photos.

Baryta- (Fiber base) prints as well as RC-prints are toned with LP-SEPIA in order to protect the image silver against environmental influence and improve archival qualities by doing so.

The use of LP-SEPIA will convert the image silver into a very stable silversulfide compound.

Note:

For customers who do not have experience in handling photographic chemistry
and for first time users, it is especially important to pay attention to the safety notes,
for persons having toning experience it is equally important to work with the instructions.

Please read carefully the safety notes in chapter 3.

2. Application instructions

Due to the 2-bath design, LP-SEPIA will not emitt annoying and harmful vapors when working according to the instructions.

Bath A (Bleach) will convert metallic image silver into a colorless silversalt.

Time of immersion in bath A will decide about the achievable image tone, the shorter the bleach time, the lesser the conversion of black image silver, therefore a more blackbrown image tone can be achieved.

Bath B (Toner) converts the colorless silversalt into a silversulfide compound being responsible for the nostalgic brown colored image result.

One of the reasons to tone black & white prints with LP-SEPIA is the variety of possible results. The special look of a sepia toned photo raises the visual quality above the average.

Note: In order to achieve a saturated brown tone use well developed (even slightly too dark) photos.

3. Safety note

For your own safety, please follow the instructions:

Disposal: According to local regulations.

4. Mixing / Toning

Mixing takes place at room temperature. You can tone directly after mixing. Preferably mix only as much LP-SEPIA as directly needed.

Mixing:

The concentrates are diluted with tab water. Dilutions for part A and part B are the same:

Toning variable contrast papers: Dilution 1 + 5 or 1 + 7
1. Immersion time in bath A (Bleach) : 10 - 60 sec.
2. Washing at 20°C/68°F : 5 -10 minutes
(Bleach has to be washed out completely)
3. Immersion time in bath B (Toner) : 60 sec.
Toning graded papers: Dilution 1 + 7 to1 + 9
1. Immersion time in bath A (Bleach) : 10 - 60 sec.
2. Washing at 20°C / 68° F : 5 -10 minutes
(Bleach has to be washed out completely)
3. Immersion time in bath B (Toner) : 60 sec.

The toning takes place in a well lit room.
Preferably you process each print individually, emulsion side up with constant agitation, first comes the bleaching in bath A , followed by washing and finally the immersion into the toner bath B.
After having finished toning let excess liquid run off the print and immerse it into the final wash.

Note about change of image tone:

LP-SEPIA will cause different toning results with different photographic emulsions. In order to learn the actual change of image tone, we recommend to start toning with well washed spare prints.

Chlorobromide papers such as MACO expo RF or expo RN will show a warmbrown image tone.

Pure bromide papers such as MACO expo G will show a coldbrown image tone.
Hint:
The use of the Lazarus-Toning-Procedure, in short LTP*, makes it possible to
achieve photos with a slight brown image tone without having fully brown toned photos:
Dilute part A (bleach) 1 + 100, immersion time 2-4 minutes, then wash thoroughly , immerse into bath B (toner) which you have diluted 1 + 50 for about 2-4 minutes. This is followed by the final wash.

In order to control the degree of toning visually it is recommended to place an untoned photo of equal denisty into a tray filled with water .

* LTP has been worked out in a Black & White professional Lab in Hamburg, „LAZARUS FINE PRINTS" based on LABOR PARTNER LP-SEPIA .

For Informations about the final wash, please read the following instructions.

5. Washing instructions

After toning, prints have to be washed thoroughly.

Preferably use the last chambers of the especially well suited MACO ecowash printwashers.
Advantage of the ecowash is a short and thorough washing while saving water in comparison to conventional washing methods.

Moreover, one avoids the risks of washing out optical brighteners or damaging the structure of the paper, which may happen due to long washing times.

Washing times (20°C/68 F):
With MACO ecowash:
PE/RC/ - photographic paper:

5 Minutes

Baryta/FB - photographic paper (double/premium weight):

18 Minutes

Conventional washing methods:
